For several years I had suffered through extremely painful and heavy periods. Fibroids caused me to become anemic, which was interfering with my daily activities because I kept getting dizzy.
However, with young children and other obligations, I was concerned about having a hysterectomy, as I recall the pain and the long recovery time my mother had a number of years ago when she had hysterectomy. I was expecting the same; there was no comparison at all.
Technology has improved in many different parts of our lives, and I can gratefully say that the da Vinci procedure certainly has improved hysterectomy surgery and recovery.
The day of the surgery I arrived to the hospital at 11:00 am. The surgery was scheduled for 1:00 pm. I can tell you that I was very scared and nervous knowing that I would be having a major surgery. Everything went so smoothly and calmly, and everybody in the Palms West Hospital was so nice and caring. Dr. Adler and his team were wonderful.
Later in the evening the same day I was ready to go home.
The first two days I moved slowly and was tired, but there was less pain than what I experienced on a monthly basis with my period. I can’t believe it is behind me. My recovery has been remarkable. After two days, I did not need any pain medications. Anyone who saw me did not believe I had a surgery.
I can truly say that any woman who is a candidate should utilize this procedure. Bleeding is limited and recovery time is greatly improved. I have only 4 small incisions. It is now been 4 weeks since my surgery and I feel FANTASTIC. I have more energy than I have had in the last couple of years. This is not your mother’s hysterectomy.
My sincere thanks to Dr. Adler and his teem for helping women and for making my experience so positive.

The reason for my procedure was to remove a very large fibroid, which weighed well over 2 lbs. This fibroid grew to a size that was affecting my day to day activities: sitting on my bladder; frequent and difficult urination; heavy periods that kept me at home sometimes for days; shortness of breath; lower back pain.
I highly recommend Dr. David Adler and the da Vinci robotic-assisted hysterectomy method. I am 5 months post op at the moment and can’t sing the praises loud enough for my doctor and this highly effective surgical treatment.
Dr. Adler was concerned by the large size of this fibroid that I might not be a candidate for the da Vinci surgery method, leaving the only option of the traditional large incision that would lay me up for weeks on end. As a very busy business owner, wife and mother, this was not a viable option for me. Dr. Adler explained in full detail the da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery method and the benefits of it being an out-patient surgical procedure and, in my case, no overnight stay; minimal blood loss; faster recovery. I was also provided with a da Vinci DVD to watch, and the website has a wealth of information available. I read other testimonials and felt confident that this was going to work for me.
On surgery day, I reported to the outpatient department of Palms West Hospital at 5:30 AM and was back home recovering in my bed at 4:00 PM the same day. I did experience surgical pain the first few days and took the prescription pain relief regularly for about 3 days, then transferred to Advil as needed.
My four small incision sites were sealed with a surgical glue and did not cause me any discomfort at all. The best thing was being able to shower right away, I did not have any stitches or staples to deal with; the glue wore off in a few weeks and the incisions were completely healed.
For the first few days post-op, I struggled with getting my bladder and bowels back on schedule. I dealt with pain on the “insides,” but it did not limit me from walking around and doing very light chores and activities. I resumed driving at the end of week one.
By the end of week two all of my bloating and most of my pain was gone. Coughing or sneezing were really my only enemies at that time.
By the end of week three I felt like I never had anything done. I went to see Dr. Adler for a one month post-op check up and was informed that everything was healing fine.
Since the surgery I have had normal bladder function return and no more lower back pain. I feel so energetic and even resumed my Zumba exercise classes after about 2 months.
This was my 5th surgical procedure and by far was the easiest!!
